How to Join the Project

If you have not Y-DNA tested, then you or a male relative must test to join this project. The recommended company for testing is FTDNA because, they have the largest and oldest Y-DNA database. This increases the chances of finding a genetic cousin.

Once again, our project is open to any male of any of the listed surnames or to any man believing that he is descended from one of the listed surnames:

Pritchard, Pritchett, Prichard, Prichart, Prichett, Prickett, Pritchart, and variations.

Participants are sought from all parts of the world. If you don't see your surname variant spelling, please ask, it can be added to the list.

Who can test?

The tested individual must be a male in order to check his paternal line (father's father's ... father's and so on line). Y-DNA is passed only from a father to son and from any of his sons to their sons and so on. Females interested in this project should look for a father, brother or male cousin that bears one of the surnames above that is listed for this project.

Females can also order a test for themselves, which will be the mtDNA or mtDNAPlus, but the results of their test do not tie to any one Surname Project generally speaking. An mtDNA test will only yeild results of a female's mother's mother ... and so on back in a straight line. The mtDNA test is a type of test generally used to disprove relationships, but can be used to prove them with some extraordinary effort. It is very difficult to use mtDNA in conjunction with genealogy.

What are the specifics if I decide to test my Y-DNA with FTDNA?

First, the administrator(s) DO NOT received any type of compensation. This project's as well as any of the other FTDA project administrators are strictly volunteers. Family Tree DNA, of Houston, TX is the World's leading genetic genealogy testing company for Surname Y-DNA Projects. All tests include an estimate of the "Haplogroup" (an indication of deep ancestry). Click on the Marker Comparison Chart of the Y-DNA markers tested by different companies.

You test the largest number of markers you can afford. Most serious researchers will eventually upgrade to at least 37 markers. These are the costs of a Y-DNA test when you join any surname project, such as this one, at the time of an order.

The test is a simple cheek swab. The kit will arrive and leave your house by mail. You simply rub the inside of your cheek a number of times with a special scraper, put the kit back into the return envelope, and put it in the mail.

NGGP Tested

Tested at the National Geographic Genographic Project (NGGP)?

You can transfer yourself, your results and your retained sample to Family Tree DNA.

1. Go to your National Geographic Genographic Project page and Log in using your kit number.

2. On the next page, click on "I acknowledge".

3. On the next page, scroll all the way down to the bottom. You will see "learn more" in small blue letters near the bottom of the page. Click on it and then Check "I agree".

4. Fill out the FTDNA form "Adding Your Record to FTDNA" and click "Continue" You should be able to finish it from there.

What happens next?

1. You will be given access to your FTDNA personal page to manage your results.

2. In your FTDNA page is a blue button labeled "join".

3. Click on that button, then select the surname, then select a second gray join button which is lower on the page.

When you have joined the project, the Project Administrator will be notified by FTDNA, and your results will be available for posting on the Project's Results Page. If you have any problems you can call or email FTDNA and ask them to transfer you into the project. FTDNA Tested

Already been tested at Family Tree DNA?

FTDNA makes it easy for you to join the project. There is no charge to join another project and you may belong to as many surname projects as you wish at the same time. Actually you can now belong to as many surname projects, geographic projects, y-haplogroupi projects (if you have been yDNA tested) and mt-haplogroup project(if you have been mtDNA tested) as you like. The following is how to join if you already have your test results with FTDNA.

1. Go to Family Tree DNA and sign in using the kit number and password that they gave you in an email sent to you when you were tested.

2. In your FTDNA personal page is a blue button labeled "Join Projects" in the top left corner of the page. Click on that button.

3. Select the surname of the project you wish to join. FTDNA will provide you with a list of projects that may be of interest to you based on your surname, haplogroup, geographic information about your EKA(Earliest Known Ancestor). You may also have to search for the surname or you can click the links to browse all the projects available.

4. Once you click on the desired project you wish to join, you will then have to select a second gray join button which is lower on the page and to the right.

When you have joined the project, the Project Administrator will be notified by FTDNA, and your results will be available for posting on the Project's Results Page.

Other Company Tested

Have you already had your DNA tested?

If you have already gotten your yDNA tested by Ancestry.com, Relative Genetics, Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation, Oxford Ancestors, DNA Heritage or one of the other DNA testing companies, you can join this project by sending your yDNA test results and Pritchard ▪ Pritchett ▪ Prickett pedigree to this project's administrator. You can use our Contact Us Form and the project's administrator will email you back with more information.

When you join the Pritchard ▪ Pritchett ▪ Prickett DNA Project, your yDNA and Pritchard ▪ Pritchett ▪ Prickett pedigree will be analyzed for free to determine whether or not you fit into a Pritchard ▪ Pritchett ▪ Prickett family groups that have already been established through yDNA analysis. It is also possible that you will match one of the Pritchard ▪ Pritchett ▪ Prickett singletons who have not yet found a Pritchard match, thereby establishing a new Pritchard family group.

Even if you do not have a match, you may still join and take advantage of having your information put into the database in case of a future match. This is one of the reasons that this website was established, providing a location of all yDNA signatures of the Pritchard ▪ Pritchett ▪ Prickett members. By providing some basic very information, it can aid others in finding matches with their yDNA and help with understanding how to use their results.
